Early Bird Winner!

SPC Patrick McClean, stationed in Ramada, Al-Anbar Province of IRAQ, won $1,000 in the first leg of the Pennsylvania Educational & Charitable Foundation drawing, which was held on Saturday June 3, 2006 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania!

From the annals of good human interest stories, this one is right up there among the best according to Gene G. Veno, Executive Vice President of the Pennsylvania Chiropractic Association.  At PCA’s Board of Director’s Meeting on June 3, 2006, the Board drew the first raffle ticket out of a hat and picked the name of Patrick McClean whose home is in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania.

Ms. Ramona Anderson, Executive Vice President of the PCECF, placed a call to SPC McClean’s home and spoke recently with his father, Mr. Craig McClean, who was delighted to hear the news that his son had just won $1,000 in cash and still has two more opportunities to win a cash prize before the grand prize drawing for a 2006 fully loaded Porsche Boxster.  The PCECF is raising money for education and research programs to advance the chiropractic profession.  This year’s fund raising is a raffle ticket for the 2006 sports car convertible at PCA’s Annual Conference in Valley Forge, PA August 17th - 20th.  Previous winners have won Mercedes Benz vehicles and large cash prizes.

The irony of this story is neither that SPC Patrick McClean nor his father Craig bought the ticket.  According to Dr. Mark Tejan, PCA District 13 Director and the seller of the ticket, he asked his long time friend to purchase a ticket.  His friend indicated he does not believe in participating in games of chance since it goes against his moral and Christian beliefs.  But since the game of chance is for a great cause – education and research – he agreed to purchase a ticket anonymously for a serviceman who he knows in his community.  What a great American this fine man is!  If only we knew his name!

Patrick called home on Sunday to speak with his mother and father and that is when he heard of the great news.  He asked if his ticket is still in the running for the grand prize, and the answer is absolutely yes according to Ms. Anderson.

We also learned that SPC McClean is a car buff and one of his favorite vehicles is a Porsche.  So, if this story is to have an even happier ending, Patrick McClean may just arrive home in time to attend our Annual Meeting as the guest of PCA to see if he can win the final prize.  Wouldn’t that be a fitting gift for his service to our country in a time of war!

Finally, when Ms. Anderson and Gene Veno spoke to Patrick’s father, he shared a recent conversation that Patrick and his mother had about his service to our country.  His mom is concerned about Patrick’s safety (just like every other mom) in that Patrick is in harms way each and every minute while he is in Iraq.  Patrick’s mother was allayed of any fear when he told his mom that “I am the luckiest guy I know”!  What a tribute to a fine young man who is serving our country.  He believes with all of his heart that his service to our country is what he is supposed to be doing!

God Bless you SPC Patrick McClean.  Come home safe so we can see you possibly drive home in that 2006 Porsche Boxster in August!
